Players of the Month | April 2019

Postseasons for the high school, bantam and peewee levels are long gone. But “playoff hockey” has been a regular conversation piece in our locker rooms over the past month, just as it’s been every year around this time. And perhaps the excitement of the Stanley Cup playoffs and NCAA Frozen Four has provided some energy to a number of our athletes and their on-ice performances. Here are a few difference-makers who are playing right now like they’re ready for a Game 7. These are the Players of the Month for April 2019.

Joe Palodichuk | 18 Selects | Hill-Murray School

Like a number of the boys in his tier, Joe does a tremendous job of understanding the delicate balance within a successful training season. Managing the camaraderie of the locker room atmosphere along with a consistent compete level on the ice can be a tough task for younger athletes. But Joe and many others in the 18 Selects understand what it takes to get the desired results while enjoying your time at the rink. The maturity in this defenseman has been a driving force behind his continued growth. Separately, Joe was also recently selected in the USHL Draft by the Fargo Force.

Kade Nielsen | 18s Tier | Burnsville HS

Kade follows a strong lineage of Burnsville natives that have shown significant growth while also making a positive impact on their peers. Kade’s consistent compete level and passion during game reps has helped mold his game into an effective, two-way power forward. His engagement level as a defender also provides a great challenge for his opponents. With more of the same hard work, look for Kade to improve on his 29-point (12 goals, 17 assists) sophomore season for the Blaze.

Jack Hanson | 16s Tier | Minneapolis Storm BAA

Jack entered our current training season with relatively high expectations from the staff, and for good reason. His “rookie” year here in 2018 was incredibly impressive in terms of his body of work on and off the ice, the overall improvements he made to his game, and the relationships he developed with our instructors and coaches. But Jack appears to be on track for another strong campaign to prepare himself for the varsity hockey this upcoming winter. His day-to-day focus and drive will continue to open doors as his career progresses.

Grant Dietz | 15s Tier | Gentry Academy

Our bantam groups have enjoyed the benefit of a number of new faces like Grant. Coming off a successful season with Gentry U14, Grant’s strong two-way instincts have carried over into his game reps this spring. It is always encouraging to see a young forward who wants to contribute just as much on defense as offense. Grant is a highly coachable and focused athlete who is working toward a successful training season and trending toward an impactful high school career.

Lukas Lienke | 14s Tier | Stillwater Area

Stillwater is another community that we been fortunate to be a part of through so many great kids and awesome athletes. So it’s been fun for our staff to see another bright up-and-comer like Lukas as the next potential “big thing” from the east side. So far this training season, Lukas has put forth strong efforts towards improving his physical tools and well as his game trends. We are excited to see how much this big body defenseman improves over the summer.

Matts Tarlton | 13s Tier | Woodbury Area

Matts is another first-year athlete who follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Ben. And like his brother, Matts is a fierce competitor and hard worker. Although he is among our youngest tier, Matts has showed a lot of maturity in his game as a passer and playmaker. His vision and awareness with the puck makes him a regular contributor to team offense. As he continues to improve his overall game, we expect Matts to be a solid player in peewee next year.

Evan Wittchow | Goaltender | Burnsville HS

Evan has had a tremendous Spring portion of the training season. He has taken his game to another level and his consistent attitude and desire to improve has lead to consistent results. His attention to detail has been spot on throughout our curriculum and has made major strides in terms of his game and overall athleticism. Our whole goalie staff has been thrilled with the immediate results and can't wait to see what the rest of the offseason has in store for Evan!
